SANDY CHRISTMAS

A little angel for you.

Christmas without gifts? Of course not. The Dominican Republic is no exception. In fact, the traditional gift-giving is known as “Un Angelito” (A Little Angel). It's a sort of White Elephant or Santa game: the names of participants are placed in a sack. Each person needs to pick a name from it. The person whose name you choose is your Angelito, and every week, you’ll give them a little gift, without revealing your identity. On the last day of the gift exchange, you can finally reveal yourself. Enjoy.

La Noche Buena: dinner is served!

One of the most typical dishes served on Noche Buena (Christmas Eve) is cerdo asado (roast pork), arroz moro de guandules, pasteles en hojas (banana leaves filled with pork, meat, chicken, or fish), and many desserts, such as pudding, jalea de batata, and turrón.
