At Villa Taina we like to make sure we take care of your body, mind and spirit. We offer amazing food, great outdoor activities and we are now offering meditation workshops in our newly renovated yoga loft.
Meditation is a great daily practice to reduce stress and anxiety, improve mental clarity and ensure longevity. Scientific studies have shown that deep relaxation changes our bodies on a genetic level. What researchers at Harvard Medical School discovered is that, in long-term practitioners of relaxation methods such as meditation, far more ”disease-fighting genes” were active, compared to those who practised no form of relaxation.
More encouraging still, the benefits of the relaxation effect were found to increase with regular practice: the more people practised relaxation methods such as meditation or deep breathing, the greater their chances of remaining free of arthritis and joint pain with stronger immunity, healthier hormone levels and lower blood pressure.
Our facilitator, Ariel Richards has been practicing meditation for many years. She has received training at the Shambala centre and has attended many workshops and seminars on the various aspects of meditation and its applications in modern medicine and a balanced lifestyle. She uses meditation as a part of her Holistic Health practice.
Just like anything, no one form of meditation suits everyone. These workshops will help you to learn how to establish and sustain a daily meditation practice by exploring seated, reclining, standing and walking meditations with music, guided voice instruction and solo writing activities.
Over six weeks you’ll learn how meditation affects the breath, body, emotions, thinking patterns and improved focus in daily life. It’s appropriate for all levels, and there’ll be plenty of time for questions.
Each class will start with a brief 15 minute asana practice followed by a discussion of a particular aspect of meditation. Then you’ll enjoy a guided meditation session followed by question and answer time. You’ll go home with optional ‘homework’ activities before next class- so whether you simply want to zen out and enjoy an hour of relaxation or take this practice to the next level- this workshop will benefit anyone who is willing to give it a try.
After a Sunday morning stroll on the beach and breakfast at our lovely restaurant, climb the stairs to the yoga loft at 10:30 am for this 1.5 hour workshop. It is complementary to Villa Taina guests or can be enjoyed by outside Cabarete visitors and residents for only $50 USD for the six weeks. Drop in is also possible for $10 USD per session, just be sure to come 15 minutes early to receive direction from the instructor.
You can register in advance by calling Ariel at 829-717-8564 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or by speaking to the guest services manager at Villa Taina.
